Our History
What is the Hesburgh Womenof Impact Initiative?
The Hesburgh Women of Impact initiative, named in honor of Rev. Theodore M. Hesburgh, C.S.C., celebrates the pivotal role of women in the University of Notre Dame’s story, from the formative contributions of the Sisters of the Holy Cross to the transformational decision to move to co-education in 1972. This philanthropic initiative’s goal is to recognize and celebrate the leaders of the University of Notre Dame, to empower and nurture future leaders within the University, and to invite philanthropic support for the mission of Our Lady’s University. Together, we honor the past, empower the present, and shape the future of the University of Notre Dame.
